Responsibilities

OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

UPMC presently provides high level sports injury management in a number of sports medicine sites across Ireland. These sites are supported by a muti disciplinary team (Diagnostics, Sports Physician and Orthopaedics) and accepts self-referrals and referrals from several different sources. To support this referral pathway, a UPMC Sports Medicine Program has sites across Ireland giving access to expert care close to home. UPMC Sports Medicine Carlow is based in the UPMC Carlow Outpatient Centre IN Shamrock Plaza, Carlow. We are looking for a dynamic physiotherapist to work parttime at UPMC Carlow. Please note, this is a part-time position.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To fulfil the role of a chartered physiotherapist in the assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of all injuries, with particular focus and expertise in sports rehabilitation
  • Be actively involved in an interdisciplinary approach of working within the UPMC Sports Medicine Clinic involving physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons, and Sports Medicine Physicians
  • To deliver a world class Physiotherapy Services provided at the UPMC Sports Medicine Clinic on a day-to-day basis.
  • Deliver UPMC Institute for Health class programs for a diverse population of patients; rehab, chronic illness management and post-surgery classes.
  • To assess and treat concussion patients in line with UPMC Concussion Network protocols; and to promote, educate and generate awareness of concussion on behalf of the UPMC Concussion Network in Ireland (UPMC Training provided).
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this efficiently and effectively regarding clinical priorities and use of time.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of evidence-based protocols for all areas of physiotherapy within UPMC Sports Medicine and UPMC Orthopaedic Care
  • Participate in research in the areas of sports science, orthopaedics, and physiotherapy.
  • Adhere to all UPMC policies including (but not limited to) GDPR compliance, Health and safety and incident reporting.
    Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • MISCP and CORU registered.
  • Extensive injury screening, diagnostic, manual therapy, and sports rehabilitation understanding.
  • Extensive knowledge in injury prevention methods and recovery strategies
  • Evidence of an extensive and structured CPD portfolio – including post graduate qualifications

Desirable:

  • Post graduate Diploma or MSc in the field of Sports Medicine
  • Previous Research and/or lecture experience in Sports Medicine

Experience:

  • At least 3 years working as chartered physiotherapist.
  • Experience working with a sporting club and working in an interdisciplinary sports science and medicine team.
  • Experience in the delivery of injury diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies within a sporting environment.
