EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • PTA Diploma / Kinesiology degree required
  • Previous work experience in long term care home / retirement home setting an asset
  • Experience working with geriatric population
  • Excellent communication, organizational & time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision & as part of team
  • Vulnerable sector check required (current)

Responsibilities
  • Working under the supervision of the physiotherapist, physiotherapy assistant shall work in close contact with patients to help implement their treatment programs and achieve goals set out for them. Cheerfully offering patients their planned treatment programs with constant encouragement is the key to success
  • Assist the supervising physiotherapist in performing various components of treatment plans for individuals living in residential care communities
  • Perform various treatments as prescribed and directed by the supervising physiotherapist including but not limited to gait training, balance exercises, transfer training, range of motion, strengthening, application of modalities i.e., heat, ice, ultrasound, therabands, TENS etc.
  • Instructing patients in exercise therapy and use of mobility aids
  • Deliver dynamic, safe, and therapeutically beneficial exercise classes for groups of residents
  • Set up and prepare equipment and clean up after residents’ treatments
  • Ensure that resident gym and treatment areas are safe and tidy
  • Maintain regular ongoing communication with the physiotherapist regarding any changes or concerns about a resident’s status or treatment interventions
  • Record daily treatments as per RRA policy & procedures guidelines
