Chemours is seeking a Pilot Plant Engineer for the Semi-Works production area to join our growing Manufacturing Technology team! This position will report directly to the Monomer/P&S/SW Manufacturing Technology Manager at our Washington Works site in Parkersburg, WV location.
This role performs engineering assignments (production, maintenance, process, capital projects, etc.) involving the application of established chemical and mechanical technology and principles. This work often requires coordination with other engineering and functional competencies to provide economical and expedient task implementation. This role may also be assigned to lead the Process Engineering function associated with capital projects and will also lead commissioning, startups, and troubleshooting activities.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving manufacturing issues to support and improve efficiency of the manufacturing facilities
  • Working with researchers, chemists and other personnel to experiment and trial equipment & product formulations
  • Daily monitoring of process performance in the facility
  • Work with plant operational and maintenance teams to facilitate continuous improvement efforts related to manufacturing performance
  • Implementation of detailed projects covering aspects of manufacturing
  • Develop preventive and predictive programs for the process engineering scope
  • Participate in project teams and all activities related to process engineering technical support
  • Process documentation; including P&IDs, Block Flow Diagram, process and equipment drawings
  • Design and development of operations protocols, processing equipment installations and plant upgrades related to manufacturing processes
  • To conduct field assessments and audits on processing equipment
  • To lead and implement all Chemours standard/policy related to equipment installations and maintenance

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Minimum 6 months of Manufacturing Engineering related experience (or applicable CoOp or Internship experience)
  • Exposure to chemical processing methodology and problem-solving methods
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment and material handling systems
  • Meaningful values on safety awareness, implementation, and improvement
  • Proficient in typical business software such as Microsoft Office, etc. Thorough communication skills, verbal and written.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • 1-5 years of professional Chemical or Mechanical engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. All experience levels are encouraged to apply.
  • Hands-on experience with typical chemical plant processing equipment, maintenance and troubleshooting. As example:
  • Reaction vessels, auto-claves, poly-kettles, etc.
  • Pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, vessels, piping, etc.
  • Motors, gearboxes, couplings, etc.
  • Flow, pressure, temperature, level, etc. meters/systems
  • Control valves and process-control devices
  • Process Control & Safety Interlock Systems
  • Exposure to Process Safety Management methodologies & controls
