Job Details Job Location: POULSBO, WA 98370 Position Type: Full Time Port Madison Construction Corporation Pipe Layer General Position Summary: Performs a variety of manual tasks involving physical labor associated with pipe laying and excavating equipment functions at work sites as directed by supervisor or general manager. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels and/or lasers. Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using cement or glue. Cover pipes with earth or other materials, cut pipes to required lengths. Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools. Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools. Install and repair sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems. Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors. Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indications. Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices. Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods and transit levels. Operate mechanized equipment such as pickup trucks, roller, tandem dump trucks, front-end loader and backhoes. Specific Job Skills: Good communication skills (including listening, writing and speaking). Ability to work with people as part of a team, to handle stressful situations, to follow directions and make good decisions. Ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing or lying down. Ability to detect the differences in sounds that vary in pitch and loudness. Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, to push, pull or carry objects. Ability to see details at a distance as well as at close range and to judge distance between you and an object. Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift pushes, pull or carry objects. Ability to quickly respond with hand, finger or foot to a signal, including the ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more different signals such as lights, sounds, pictures etc. Ability to move hands quickly, grasp, manipulate or assemble objects. Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance. Knowledge of materials, methods, equipment and tools involved in the construction/excavating business and the ability to handle and/or operate them safely and responsibly. Qualifications Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or GED required. Minimum 5 years construction or excavation experience with specific experience performing the duties associated with pipe laying and equipment operations. A valid State of Washington driver’s license is required. Job Conditions: Working conditions include working in a setting that requires manual labor and knowledge and use of safety equipment. May be exposed to weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. Physical Requirements: Manual and finger dexterity for operation of different tools and machinery. Lifting and moving heavy equipment. Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.
