Description

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Tetra Tech is adding a Pipeline Engineer to our Mechanical team based in either Calgary, AB or Vancouver, BC.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of pipeline engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in midstream/downstream oil & gas projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation required; must be registered or eligible for registration in Alberta (APEGA) or British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Strong background in mechanical design of pipelines, hydraulic modeling, stress analysis, and material selection.
  • Proven experience preparing feasibility reports, FEED studies, and cost estimates.
  • Direct project experience on major Canadian pipeline projects considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulations (CSA Z662, ASME, API).
  • Strong project engineering skills, including scope development, scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the pipeline design and engineering of midstream and downstream oil & gas pipelines and related utility systems.
  • Develop and review design standards, specifications, material specifications, procedures, and engineering standards for pipeline systems.
  • Conduct hydraulic and stress analyses, including fracture mechanics assessments and pipeline integrity evaluations.
  • Prepare feasibility studies, front-end engineering design (FEED), and cost estimates for pipeline projects.
  • Oversee preparation of detailed engineering deliverables (drawings, reports, design calculations, material take-offs).
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers and project teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project management, construction, and regulatory affairs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and provincial/federal regulations (e.g., CSA Z662, ASME).
  • Support construction, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting of pipeline facilities.
  • Manage contractor and vendor deliverables, ensuring quality and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
