Your Role:
Prepares technical data used in the layout, construction, and operation of oil and gas field, refineries, gas compressor stations, chemical plants, and process piping systems. A Piping Designer IV generally have 8+ years of continuous drafting and design experience in the industry. Designers will work on their own to complete work required and as expertise is demonstrated will work directly with the client to achieve project goals and in some cases will lead the project work to completion.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required: High school diploma and post-secondary training preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in design, drafting and modeling.
  • Demonstrated capability in successfully heading up and completing projects.
  • Multiple years’ experience in design, drafting and modeling.
  • Oil and Gas experience including refineries and gas processing.
  • Proficient in current engineering design and drafting software packages.
  • Operational knowledge of spreadsheet and database programs.
  • AutoCAD 3D design, CADWorx a plus.

    Hourly Range: $48-$65+ per hour based on experience, skills, education and location.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for 3D piping and equipment models of entire projects.
  • May lead a design team to execute projects.
  • Optimize piping design with minimal to no supervision.
  • Coordinates piping design philosophies with the client, ensures client standards are followed, and communicates complex technical solutions to the client.
  • Leads project model reviews and coordinates multidiscipline model elements to ensure model completeness.
  • Presents models to client management, operations and engineering.
  • Drafts P&ID redlines, adds redlines to already developed P&IDs. Develops high level “from scratch” P&IDs. Self-sufficient in aligning P&IDs to a 3D model.
  • Self-sufficient in generating project deliverables (isometrics, piping plans, plot plans, MTO’s) and reviews prior to submitting for checking. Occasionally checks piping deliverables prior to issue to the client.
  • Has a basic level of understanding of pipe specifications and materials through knowledge of ASTM and ASME codes and standards.
  • Coordinates pipe specifications for projects.
  • Has a basic level of understanding of ASME B31.3, B31.4 and B31.8.
  • Has a basic level of understanding of process flow through facilities, including well pads, compressor stations, dehy units, gas processing, SWDs and refineries.
  • Under supervision, generates project piping estimates for review with management.
  • Tracks schedule and budget during the duration of a project and anticipates manpower overage or underage.
  • Tracks project scope changes and initiates change orders to management.
