Responsibilities

Animal Care

  • Feeds and waters animals according to feeding instructions and established schedules.

• Provide care to promote and maintain the well-being of animals • Ability to work weekends, some evenings, and holidays

• Observes animals to identify signs of injury, illness, or disease. • Provides general treatments for animals; contacts veterinarian for more advanced treatment.

  • Maintains records of information such as weight, physical condition, diet, feeding schedule, and medications given.
  • Answers general questions from students about the animals such as behavior or habitat.
  • Must be able to handle reptiles for a period of time and comfortable with carrying them around the room to share with the students
  • Maintain an exceptional amount of cleanliness with the animals in the animal room

Facility Maintenance

  • Oversees the operation of the planetarium and its displays, presentation formats, schedules and hours of service, and programs.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment used in presentations including projectors and other audio-visual equipment; replaces projector bulbs, cleans and aligns projector lenses and mirrors.
  • Oversees maintenance of planetarium facilities and equipment. Participates in the design, build, setup, and maintain planetarium equipment as necessary; contacts outside vendors as needed for repairs; maintains documentation and inventory files on equipment
  • Orders and purchases planetarium supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Researches and prepares preliminary budget recommendations related to planetarium operations, taking into consideration schedule proposals, equipment, and income projections.
  • Purchases new equipment, tools, and shows based on approved budgets; coordinates and oversees maintenance contracts and other related technical requirements of the facility.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the facility and contacts maintenance if needed for minor repairs.
