JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides a unique opportunity to work with an integrated team of design, finance, and construction professionals to effect change in California school facilities and help shape the educational future of students across the state. Successful school facilities improvement programs are complex, occur over many years, and require coordination across District Boards, architects, engineers, professional service firms, and State and local agencies. It is crucial that districts are equipped with an Implementation Plan designed to meet long-term educational, facilities, and financial goals so that all projects undertaken meet specifications, schedules and budgets. We are seeking candidates who are prepared and excited to envision new concepts, brainstorm ideas and processes, and solve complex policy challenges with a team of innovators unaccustomed to barriers or limitations on success. Familiarity with California planning regulations and agencies (e.g. CEQA, SFP, OPSC, DSA, CDE, Coastal Commission) is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field, professional certifications (e.g. AICP), and/or private sector; Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Business, Economics, Architecture, or a related field, along with 2+ years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word and industry specific tools (e.g. MS Project for schedules, Photoshop/Illustrator for graphics, SketchUp for 3D models, ArcGIS/Google Earth for mapping, etc.)
  • Familiarity with planning policies at local, county, and state levels (e.g. School Districts, City Councils, County Planning, etc.) and prepared to rapidly develop a command of relevant regulations, programs and agencies (e.g. in California: CEQA, SFP, OPSC, DSA, CDE, Coastal Commission, etc.)
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, can work independently and adhere to a rapidly work schedule
  • Available for evening meetings and overnight trips
  • Proven ability to write in a professional manner
  • Ability to synthesize and apply government regulations and industry best practices to the assigned work product.
  • Experience working for public sector client
Responsibilities
  • Assess school capital program needs, including facilities, infrastructure, technology, and other relevant programs
  • Efficiently write, design, assemble, and edit original content for clients through a process-driven planning approach focused on improving the learning environments and functionality of school sites
  • Coordinate planning activities with team members to collect data, perform analyses, formulate plan documents, develop project budgets and schedules, and produce implementation materials
  • Prepare and analyze reports, studies, findings, letters, memos, and public notices as needed to support CFW operations or client needs
  • Represent CFW at public meetings and consult with developers, architects and state agencies regarding applications, regulations, processes, standards and directives
  • Attend client and Board of Trustee meetings as required, typically in the evenings
  • Analyze grant eligibility and assist in completing necessary applications for State and Federal education grant programs, such as State Aid funding
  • Review drafts and provide quality control and final edits to documents produced by other team members, ensuring these documents are error-free, written in proper style/voice, and fulfill our commitment to both the client and our firm
  • Identification and marketing of additional opportunities to assist new and existing clients in meeting their facilities planning objectives
  • Maintain knowledge of planning principles and best practices, current developments, data sources, research methods, laws and ordinances regarding plans, development review, education policy, zoning, land division and environmental review
  • For construction projects under management, advise in prequalification and selection of architects and project professionals
  • Assist in reviewing project design drawings for adherence to educational program goals and specifications as contained in adopted Implementation Plan
  • Review the scope and timing of all proposed work, including from Professional Service firms, for impacts to existing school programs and operations
  • Attend design and construction-related meetings in order to fully understand the scope and pace of a project
  • Provide input on a regular basis on items concerning planning and project implementation and suggest improvements to processes for review by Vice President

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $82,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year
