Description
Job Purpose The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules for the fabrication of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, and related static equipment. The role ensures timely execution of production activities, resource allocation, and coordination between engineering, procurement, and fabrication teams to meet project deadlines and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities1. Project Scheduling & Planning Prepare detailed project schedules (Level 1–4) covering engineering, procurement, fabrication, welding, NDT, painting, and dispatch. Develop work breakdown structures (WBS) for each project. Track project milestones and ensure alignment with contractual delivery dates. Monitor project progress daily/weekly and update project schedules accordingly. 2. Coordination & Communication Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Production, QC, and Supply Chain teams for smooth workflow. Conduct weekly progress review meetings with internal teams and provide recovery plans when needed. Communicate schedule delays, risks, and impacts to management and propose corrective actions. 3. Documentation & Reporting Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports. Maintain project planning documents including fabrication status reports, manpower loading, and material delivery status. Update dashboards and KPIs for management review. 4. Resource Management Plan manpower, machines, and material requirements for each phase of fabrication. Ensure optimum utilization of workshop resources. Forecast potential bottlenecks and identify solutions in advance. 5. Monitoring Fabrication Progress Track fabrication stages such as cutting, rolling, welding, machining, assembly, hydro testing, NDT, and painting. Ensure adherence to ASME, API, and client specifications. Follow up with QC for inspection and documentation schedules. 6. Risk Management Identify project risks related to schedule, material delays, or production challenges. Develop mitigation and contingency plans. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of fabrication processes for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, and static equipment. Proficiency in planning software: Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel. Understanding of ASME Section VIII, TEMA, API standards. Excellent communication and coordination skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 3–6 years of experience in project planning within pressure vessel, heat exchanger, or heavy fabrication industry. Experience working in ASME-certified fabrication workshops is preferred.
