Responsibilities

THE ROLE

As a Planning Policy Officer in the Resilience and Sustainability Planning team, you’ll play a key role in shaping how NSW responds to climate change and natural disasters. You’ll contribute to the development of disaster adaptation plans, support legislative reforms, and help deliver critical actions from flood inquiries and mitigation strategies—making a real impact on communities across the state.
You’ll join a team of experienced professionals who are strategic, agile, and committed to building a planning system that’s inclusive, responsive, and future-focused. From research and analysis to stakeholder engagement and policy writing, you’ll work across a diverse range of tasks—growing your skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment where your contributions truly matter.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Expertise in strategic planning or environmental science – Experience in strategic planning or environmental science, particularly in the areas of natural hazards, climate change, or disaster resilience, with the ability to apply this knowledge to policy development and planning reform.
  • Critical analysis and research skills – Ability to assess complex information, identify key issues, and develop evidence-based policy recommendations.
  • Clear and concise communication – Skilled in summarising technical content and presenting it in plain English through reports, briefs, and policy documents.
  • Stakeholder engagement – Confident in building relationships and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to support policy development.
  • Adaptability and time management – Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities, and adjusting to shifting deadlines.
