Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage the company’s Operator’s Licence and ensure full compliance with all associated legal responsibilities.
  • Ensure all necessary statutory operating licences are in place and up to date.
  • Oversee the taxation, servicing, and maintenance of all company vehicles in line with manufacturer and lease agreements.
  • Ensure all vehicle tracking systems are operational and that vehicles are correctly allocated and transferred between personnel.
  • Liaise and negotiate with external suppliers to secure best value for services such as wagon servicing, hose repairs, haulage, and paint shop work.
  • Monitor and manage external plant hire, seeking to minimise reliance on hired equipment and regularly evaluate hire costs versus purchase options.
  • Prioritise the allocation of fitters and internal resources to ensure focus on high-priority plant and equipment.
  • Ensure all deliveries to sites are conducted in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Maintain and continuously update the plant register, ensuring accurate tracking of all MCS-owned equipment.
  • Manage and fulfil internal and external plant hire requests promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensure the yard and garage operate safely and efficiently, including the preparation of Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS) and delivery of Toolbox Talks.
  • Oversee the movement of materials in and out of the yard, maintaining clear and auditable records.
  • Maintain the company’s asset register, ensuring all items are logged and regularly reviewed.
  • Ensure all fleet and plant equipment is kept in good working condition and is serviced or repaired in line with operational needs.
  • Keep accurate and current service and inspection records for all plant, lifting equipment, and lifting accessories.
  • Maintain up-to-date mileage and usage records for the vehicle fleet.
  • Review and act upon tachograph and tracker data to ensure legal compliance and efficiency.
  • Organise and manage the transportation of plant and materials, ensuring resources are allocated appropriately.
  • Work closely with sites, local waste tips, and aggregate suppliers to coordinate tipper wagon operations and material movements.
  • Support the formulation of departmental budgets and contribute commercial insights into planning activities.
  • Lead the procurement and disposal of plant and transport assets, including the development of supporting business cases.
  • Review and authorise invoices for external plant hire and related services.
  • Maintain a flexible and adaptable approach to meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • Oversee chain inspections and ensure up-to-date certification is maintained.
  • Manage the servicing, certification, and issue of fire extinguishers across the fleet and facilities

Continuous Improvements

You will contribute to the overall running and continuous improvement of the business, along with development of the Department, by ensuring that the highest professional standards are maintained to continually improve the service given to Clients. This includes:

  • Identifying problems and offering solutions.
  • Ensuring the Company’s QEMS procedures are followed, and offering suggestions as to their development and improvement
  • Encouraging and developing teamwork both within your team and between teams, internally and externally.

Following your induction, you will be expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of the Company’s structure, values, procedures, and relevant systems, including the Quality, Environmental and Management System (QEMS).
