Description

The Plant Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations at the plant level, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control and financial reporting. This role ensures compliance with Canadian financial regulations and corporate policies while supporting operational efficiency and strategic decision-making. The Plant Controller plays a key leadership role in maintaining financial integrity and contributing to the plant’s overall success.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • CPA designation (CGA, CMA or CA) is preferred
  • 5 years in a manufacturing or corporate accounting role, preferably in the automotive sector
  • Microsoft Office and ERP systems (e.g., MAPICS)
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities

Responsibilities
  • Plant-Level Financial Management:
  • Oversee all plant accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll and general ledger.
  • Approve and review vendor payments and accounts payable entries.
  • Post sales transactions and manage AR sub-ledger.
  • Analyze inventory transactions and ensure accurate GL impact.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements within 3 business days of month-end.
  • Present monthly financial results to leadership
  • Maintain and reconcile working papers and account files.
  • Supervise annual physical inventory and cost updates.
  • Calculate and maintain inter-company and transfer pricing.
  • Submit government filings (GST/HST, EHT, WSIB, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain labor-based costing and overhead rates.
  • Prepare 5-year financial budgets and monthly/quarterly forecasts.
  • Report LPP/LTA reductions based on customer sales volumes.
  • Corporate-Level Responsibilities:
  • Manage customer invoicing and AR collection activities for Canadian locations.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate financial policies and reporting standards.
  • Participate in corporate audits and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Compliance and Systems Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP, IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Support the Environmental Management System (EMS) and Health and Safety programs.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and process audits; implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in the Ethics Committee and uphold the company’s Code of Conduct.
  • Health, Safety and Wellness:
  • Prioritize safety and comply with the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Support risk reduction, hazard identification and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and wellness legislation and standards.
  • Uphold and adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
  • Environmental:
  • Promote the global Environmental Management System with a focus on footprint reduction, recycling and resource efficiency.
