Description

ACCOUNTABILITY: Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the facility and equipment in safe operating conditions. Ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe manner in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Facilities include Jasper Memorial Hospital, The Retreat Nursing Home, and Primary Care Center. Reports to the Plant Engineering Director.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training Experience: Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Two years healthcare facility maintenance preferred.
Verbal and Written Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Must be able to communicate in an understandable manner with supervisory and staff personnel, as well as our patients/residents and visitors.
Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to relate to and sustain a pleasant environment with a diverse group of personnel and others with whom he or she may encounter within the facility. Must be able to function in a team-oriented environment.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Must be able to uses hands, stand, climb, and balance; able to reach, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Mist be able to lift. Specific vision abilities are necessary as is hearing.
Essential Mental Abilities: Must have the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to assess the situation and then reason out problems and solutions.
Must be able to deal with a variety of personalities with whom the employee comes into contact with, both pleasant and irate.
Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to visually and audibly perform all essential functions.
Essential Physical Requirements: Will walk, stand, sit stoop, lift, climb ladders, and be able to use arms and hands, with hand-eye coordination necessary. May be required to lift/carry up to 75 lbs. and push/pull up to 300 lbs. with the aid of a cart/dolly. Physical effort normal required for this position are constant (over 80% of time).
Exposure to Hazards: Unexpected Exposure: The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Situation can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids. Personnel who perform these duties
are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
Facility Safety & Educational Requirements: Understand that the responsibility for safety relies on each employee. Attend facility-sponsored training in Blood Borne Pathogens, Safety Plans & Policies, Department specific safety, Emergency Preparedness, infection control and an other facility required training. Respond to all facility emergencies. Complete Care Learning classes as required.
Other: Assume responsibility for professional growth and expertise, as well as continuing education.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the facility, which may include painting, carpet repairs, cleaning, general repairs, housekeeping duties, and any necessary duties as needed.
  • Has knowledge of and performs maintenance functions such as plumbing, HVAC, basic electric, general carpentry skills, painting, sheetrock etc.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance including lubrication, changing and cleaning filters, replacement of worn parts, etc.
  • Maintenance of patient/resident equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, specialty chairs, beds, etc.
  • Knowledgeable of state, local, and federal regulations in relations to hospitals and nursing homes.
  • Attends and participates in training programs as required by company.
  • Takes part in in-services and training of staff to include, MSDS program, OSHA rules and regulations and safety programs.
  • Performs duties as assigned, in a timely manner.
  • Delivers superior customer service and represents the company in a professional manner at all times.
  • Maintains and safeguards all company tools and equipment.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Check daily for any requests for repairs.
  • Respond promptly to all requests for repairs or maintenance concerns
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for special events.
  • Ensure all systems, i.e., Alarm Systems, Fire systems are tested per state, local and federal guidelines
  • Reports injury of self or others to supervisor immediately
  • Participates in fire and disaster drills. In event of an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure patient/resident and staff safety.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/resident information. Displays a neat, clean, professional appearance at all times. Exhibits an attitude that promotes harmony and goodwill in the workplace. Promotes facility culture by providing quality, comprehensive services to all customers through a team approach.
  • Takes call on a weekly rotation for nights, holidays, and weekends.
