PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Practical person with a strong knowledge of waste-to-energy technologies, environmental regulations, and health & safety standards.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to manage teams and drive operational excellence.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • NEBOSH/IOSH certification or equivalent in health & safety management.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) for plant operations.
  • Strong background in process optimization and performance improvement.
    Hours of Work: 9am - 6pm Monday - Friday. Some out of hours and on call cover will occasionally be required to ensure minimum staffing levels are met.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE - PLANT MANAGER (ENERGY FROM WASTE)

To be responsible for ensuring efficient plant performance, regulatory compliance, and health and safety adherence while optimising productivity, Plant performance and sustainability goals

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plant Performance

  • Manage the optimal operation of the EFW Plant in relation to uptime, thermal and electrical outputs.
  • Continuously analyse plant performance metrics, identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and energy recovery.
  • Utilise data-driven strategies and advanced control systems to optimise combustion efficiency and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Monitor and develop action plans to address areas for improvement.
  • Drive innovation and best practices to maximise plant output while minimizing environmental impact and operational costs.
  • Work collaboratively with the key stakeholders to implement upgrades and modifications that improve overall plant performance.

Maintenance

  • Oversee required maintenance works in relation to all equipment at the Plant to ensure it is kept in a clean, safe, and working state.
  • Report, document, and plan works in conjunction with the Central Maintenance Team and manage onsite engineers/contractors to ensure work is completed to expectation.
  • Promptly prioritise and allocate onsite reactive maintenance works and support operators with the preparation and execution of allocated work.
  • Maintain and update the Work Orders on the Maintenance Management System (MaintainX).
  • Conduct routine equipment performance evaluations to detect potential failures and implement corrective measures.
  • Fault find, recognise, and mitigate equipment and machinery risks or issues.
  • Ensure that spare parts and critical inventory levels are adequately maintained to support smooth plant operation.

Staff Management

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and training to develop the skillset of the onsite team to ensure they are operating the plant efficiently and are utilised effectively.
  • Conduct regular one-to-one (121) meetings and manage performance with team members to provide feedback, discuss development needs, and set clear expectations and key objectives.
  • Manage leave requests, maintain sufficient staffing levels, and provide necessary cover where required, including on-call and out-of-hours support.
  • Ensure all operating and personnel data records are maintained correctly and stored securely, in line with Company policy.
  • Manage shift handover procedures.

Compliance, Health & Safety

  • Be responsible for the safety of all personnel on site; ensure policies and operating procedures are adhered to, and Near Misses and Accidents are appropriately recorded and reported.
  • Work with the Operations Director and the appointed Health and Safety Consultant to define, write and develop a library of operating policies, SOP’s, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Conduct daily, weekly and monthly site walkarounds, and partake in monthly meetings and quarterly audits.
  • Ensure the correct use of PPE and manage stock levels.
