Description GTA Containers, a leading defense contractor, is seeking a highly motivated Plant Manager to join our manufacturing team. The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of a production facility, ensuring performance targets are met across Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). This role is accountable for achieving operational excellence, driving continuous improvement, managing resources efficiently, and building a culture of teamwork, accountability, and high performance. The ideal candidate will be a calm, decisive, and resilient leader who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment. This role requires someone who can balance day-to-day urgency with long-term improvement efforts. The Plant Manager must be approachable and team-oriented, yet able to hold people accountable and make thoughtful and decisive decisions when needed. A high level of emotional intelligence, the ability to stay composed under pressure, and a hands-on, visible leadership style are essential to build trust across all levels of the organization and drive a culture of ownership, performance, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities: Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day plant activities to ensure production meets revenue targets and customer demand. Lead the development and execution of production schedules while ensuring resource optimization across the multi-shift operation. Maintain operational readiness across all shifts and departments. Ensure accurate use of ERP systems and prompt reporting for tasks related to inventory accuracy, work order completion, and direct labor time tracking. SQDC Leadership: Safety: Promote a zero-incident culture; ensure compliance with OSHA and internal safety policies. Quality: Drive adherence to product quality standards; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Delivery: Ensure schedule adherence and on-time delivery to customers through effective planning and flow management. Cost: Control variable and fixed costs; identify opportunities for waste reduction and improved asset utilization. People Management: Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and frontline staff to build a high-performing team. Monitor staffing levels and training needs to support operational demands. Foster a positive, accountable, and inclusive culture across all departments. Continuous Improvement: Champion Lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives. Identify and lead Kaizen, cost-reduction, and process improvement activities. Execute performance management systems activities on time. Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Maintenance, and HR, and manage Planning and Supply Chain personnel to ensure alignment of goals and initiatives. Provide timely updates to executive leadership on plant performance and strategic initiatives. Conduct clean handoffs between the 1st and 2nd shifts when applicable. Key Metrics / KPIs: Safety: TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate), Near Miss Reporting, Safety Audits Quality: First Pass Yield, Scrap Rate, Customer Complaints/Returns (PPM) Delivery: On-Time Delivery %, Schedule Attainment, Throughput Cost: Labor Productivity, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), Material Usage Variance People: Turnover %, Training Hours, Employee Engagement/Satisfaction Scores Requirements Qualifications: BS in Engineering, Business, or related experience Lean / Six Sigma certification or demonstrated competence (preferred) 5+ years of manufacturing experience Proven success leading SQDC-focused operations Working knowledge of ERP systems, production planning, and performance metrics Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills Work Environment: This is a hands-on leadership role based in a light manufacturing environment. Regular presence on the production floor is expected. May include occasional evening/weekend coverage or support as needed.
