Responsibilities
  • Safely operates equipment to receive and ship grains into and from the facility.
  • Safely operates mobile equipment as required to complete facility maintenance and operational requirements (skid steer, trucks, mobile work platforms, forklifts, etc.).
  • Ensures quality of grains received and shipped matches Company and Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) standards watching for treated seeds or off spec material.
  • Operates grain dryers during harvest periods, constantly monitoring grain moisture and quality throughout and making the proper adjustments when necessary.
  • Logs and operates aeration equipment to ensure proper storage conditions are met.
  • Monitors temperature cabling to ensure proper grain temperatures are maintained throughout the storage period.
  • Maintains safe traffic flows in the yard.
  • Assists the Production Supervisor in the coordination and safe operation of the elevator equipment by seasonal employees.
  • Ensures the facility is maintained in a clean and safe manner for all employees and customers.
  • Maintains equipment and building structures including changing oil, servicing bearings and cutting and welding as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Reports and logs any known or perceived deficiencies in the facility equipment to production supervisor for immediate review.
  • Responsible for participating in location Safety Program in all respects (Monthly Inspections, training requirements and assisting in training seasonal employees, proper housekeeping, etc.).
  • Responsible for ensuring proper sampling procedures using a hydraulic grain probe.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper sample splitting procedures are completed.
  • Responsible for performing dockage and moisture assessment procedures using the proper sieves and equipment (Carter Day Dockage equipment and Perten moisture meters) per Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) Standards.
  • Responsible for the operation of the specialized equipment in the grading process.
  • Responsible for the assessment of all grading factors per CGC Standards.
  • Responsible for the operations of laboratory equipment and procedures while conducting GMO testing of IP soybeans, Neogen vomitoxin testing in corn and falling number and protein testing in wheat.
  • Accurately enter all weights and measurement information for inbound and outbound loads into the Scale Interface software program.
  • Ensuring outbounds loads are shipped per Ministry of Transportation guidelines.
  • Executing order logistics for outbound grain shipments.
  • Coordination of proper shipping and receiving locations with operations employees.
  • Accurately documenting and logging results from laboratory testing into a database.
  • Administering letters of rejection to grower customers when their grain is not acceptable.
  • Performing customer service requests related to customer selling grain.
  • Assist with answering phones and directing calls to the appropriate personnel.
  • Required to work shifts in excess of 8 hours, including weekends and holidays as required.
  • Physically required to climb and work at heights up to 180 ft.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50 pounds at a time.
  • Capable of working in small or cramped spaces as necessary.
  • Travel to other DG Plants will be required on occasion (mileage compensation will be provided to an employee using his or her own vehicle in these instances).
