Join us as a Platform Engineer at Barclays, where you’ll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. We are on the lookout for aspiring Platform Engineers / Software Developers, who are interested in work on the tools, frameworks, or libraries for other developers. You’ll support large community of ~4000 engineers, creating progressive tooling, frameworks, and patterns to adopt in their work to enable quicker, more efficient, and effective releases of software up to Production, while continuously increasing its quality.

To be successful as a Platform Engineer, you should have experience with:

  • Programming – either .NET stack, Java, Python or Go. Open mind to embrace new technology is required.
  • General DevOps expertise with primary focus towards CI/CD pipelines and toolset such as GitLab, Sonarqube, Artifactory/Nexus, Wiz.
  • Scripting – Bash, Python, Powershell, with ability and desire to learn new languages on the job.
  • Container technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Public Cloud experience – AWS (ideally), Azure.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-a-Code tools like Ansible, Terraform, Chef, CloudFormation.
  • Experience with Observability / Monitoring technologies like ELK stack, Grafana, etc.
  • Accountability, sense of ownership and “Getting job done” mindset.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
