The Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) is a new shared corporate service, launched in July 2023. It provides corporate services (HR, Finance, Digital, Commercial, Security and Estates) across the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT).

Infrastructure is the backbone of any organisation’s IT systems. Having a strong, adaptable infrastructure is key to ensuring that any applications and services built upon it run efficiently, reliably, and in a secure way.
We are looking for a Platform Engineer who will join our team of Civil Servant IT professionals. You will will be responsible for the maintenance, development, and deployment of hosted and cloud IT infrastructure, networking, and services.
You will maintain and progress IT solutions and infrastructure to improve IT service capability and capacity to meet business needs.

Your key role will be to maintain and develop Cloud Platforms on both AWS and Azure, whilst ensuring hosted IT and network infrastructure meet departmental policy. Most of your time will be spent:

  • Working with colleagues across teams, including Cyber Security, Development and Architecture to translate architectural designs and proposed solutions into operational applications.
  • Providing incident reporting and continuous support to achieve 100% uptime SLA (service level agreement).
  • Researching and suggesting continuous improvements around IT infrastructure and security.
  • Upgrading systems by conferring with vendors and service providers; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing new software and enhancements.
  • Participating in projects to implement, test, and design various infrastructure components and application.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We would love to hear from you if you have experience in the following enterprise technologies.

  • Basic technical understanding of all components of IT infrastructure, and networking systems.
  • Basic knowledge of AWS and Azure.
  • Independent worker who demonstrates initiative and can identify issues independently.
  • Familiar and comfortable with using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) deployment methodology.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking and cloud networking concepts, devices, and solutions such as Firewalls, Load balancers, and Network Security Groups.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will support our growing cloud estate by:

  • Supporting our cloud environments.
  • Supporting consumers of these environment.
  • Completing daily tasks to ensure services across our environment are stable.
  • Developing innovative solutions using IAC.
  • Managing DevOps pipelines.
  • Investigating ways we can improve the service we provide with innovative technologies, such as AI.
