ABOUT THE ROLE

The Platform Manager (Edge and Facilities) plays a critical leadership role in the strategic and operational management of the organisation’s network and communications infrastructure across all campuses, hospitals, comms rooms and office buildings in New Zealand. (This includes switches, routers and associated network equipment). Key to managing this national platform is to ensure robust, secure operational standards and support in a cost-effective way that focuses on delivering the best service possible. The role needs to develop and maintain the transition from legacy infrastructure and practices to a modern, fully supported secure platform that is responsive to business needs.
The Platform Manager works at the intersection of technology and strategy. It leads initiatives that enhance platform capabilities, improve service quality, and support integration across digital systems. It involves identifying strategic priorities based on risk, investment constraints, and service resilience, and aligning those with international best practices while meeting clinical and business KPIs. This role ensures that platform services effectively meet business needs, collaborating with engineering teams, digital leaders, and key stakeholders to deliver on the roadmap and drive continuous improvement in alignment with the wider digital strategy.
Success in this role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships while navigating a complex political environment.

You are an experienced digital or platform leader with a strong grasp of risk management, service optimisation, and secure system performance. You balance innovation with stability and have a proven record of managing critical platforms in complex environments. To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Extensive experience in technology leadership, including oversight of critical systems and delivery of effective digital strategies.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in IT or a relevant technical field, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Strong political awareness and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in diverse and high-stakes environments

This role is well-suited to candidates from either of the following backgrounds:

  • Technical Leadership – with a foundation in network edge, facilities, or communications infrastructure, and experience leading operational delivery, optimisation, and critical systems performance.
  • Product Management – with expertise in infrastructure or platform services, and proven capability in stakeholder engagement, roadmap development, and lifecycle management of large-scale digital services
