Description School Name: Our Lady’s School Location: 650 24th Street, San Diego, CA 92102 Reports to: Principal Employment Type: Part Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour Our Lady’s School is seeking a caring, reliable, and energetic Playground Aide to support our 3rd – 8th grade students at our North Campus during morning arrival, recess, and lunch periods. The Playground Aide helps create a safe and positive environment for students, supervises outdoor play, and assists with student needs throughout the day. Playground Aide Responsibilities: Supervise students before school, at recess, and during lunch periods to ensure safety and positive behavior. Engage with students by promoting fair play, conflict resolution, and inclusion during games and activities. Support staff with set-up, clean-up, and transitions during lunch and recess. Enforce school rules consistently and fairly, modeling respect and kindness. Communicate effectively with teachers and administrators regarding student needs or concerns. Provide basic assistance to students as needed (e.g., helping open lunches, minor first aid with nurse support). Tutor 3rd through 5th grade students working on basic reading and math skills Other duties as assigned Requirements Religious Qualifications: Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred) Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy Professional Qualifications: A basic understanding of child development and how to relate to students in an engaging and positive way. High School Diploma or higher required. The ability to collaborate with teachers and staff while demonstrating a professional demeanor. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with Catholic traditions is a plus, but we welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are willing to learn and grow in our faith-based community. Physical Requirements: To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the aide must: Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc. Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
