QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Secondary School education
  • A minimum of 2 years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certificate of Journeyman Plumber Trades Qualification authorized by the province of B.C.
  • Class B level Gas fitter’s License recognized by the province of B.C.
  • Certificate of Competency as a Cross Connection Control Specialist issued by the American Waterworks Association
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact and work with others effectively
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Capacity to use relevant machines and equipment
Responsibilities
  • Communicating with the plumbing supervisor and receiving instructions on any general maintenance related to plumbing tasks
  • Reviewing work requests, and consulting with user departments regarding project requirements
  • Interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the materials and equipment required
  • Calculating materials and labour in estimating the cost of projects
  • Arranging a work schedule with user departments and organizing supplies, equipment, and tools
  • Using tools and techniques including cutting, bending, threading, and assembling to repair and/or replace things like pipes, valves, and fittings
  • Examining pipe systems and other plumbing fixtures for necessary repairs and maintenance
  • Installing, testing, and maintaining natural gas equipment and accessories by BC Gas Safety Code
  • Using tools like deadweight testers, water columns, and mercury manometers, to inspect and test a range of cross-connection control devices
  • Assigning work tasks to designated staff and providing related training
  • Maintaining an inventory of supplies, equipment, and tools
