An interesting opportunity has arisen for a Point of Care Testing Associate Practitioner to support the Point of Care Testing (POCT) service across all sites of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust including new community diagnostic services.
The successful candidate will be working closely with the Trust POCT Coordinator and another POCT Associate Practitioner to support the delivery of safe and effective diagnostic testing services near to the patient.
You will require good communication skills and be able to build good working relationships with both laboratory and ward staff to promote, train and advise on the correct procedures for delivering high quality POCT results to support excellent patient care.
Good IT skills are essential for this post, and previous laboratory or POCT experience would be an advantage.
Although this post is based at Westmorland General Hospital the POCT team cover multiple sites within the geographic area covered by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust and an ability to travel between hospital and community sites is essential for this role .
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
UHMBT Pathology is working in collaboration with other providers in Lancashire and South Cumbria in order to provide a streamlined single pathology service for 1.6 million people to secure our services for the future.
