POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Police Clerk, the Communications Police Clerk is responsible for providing immediate assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations to RCMP members, the general public, internal, and external agencies. The position is responsible for gathering essential information to ensure officer safety and the safety of the public in order to provide a variety of services and to dispatch the appropriate response. This position is responsible for maintaining a variety of databases by gathering, recording, relating, and updating accurate information from various sources.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have Grade 12 education with specialized training in Police and/or Justice Procedures or Functions. A minimum of four years of related experience is required or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Specialized knowledge of Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and PROS along with Court Process is required. The Police Clerk will demonstrate effective public relation skills and must have high stress tolerance with the ability to assess emergency situations and proceed accordingly. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate appropriately and professionally with internal and external customers are essential. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office with accurate data entry skills. The successful candidate will be appointed by the province as a Community Peace Officer Level 2 for the purpose of serving legal documents and will have the RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance from the RCMP.
This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.
Hours of Work: Varying day, night and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive and respond appropriately to all incoming telephone calls and radio transmissions. Effective response relies on knowledge of policies and procedures, good judgement and appropriate analysis of the presenting situation.
  • Initiate and maintain accurate police files by opening, generating and updating computer queries and entries.
  • Respond effectively to all requests for service at the front counter. These may include emergency events, emotionally charged situations and routine service requests.
  • Maintain control and record keeping of all funds received at the front counter for a variety of services; ensure accurate deposits are made on a regular basis.
  • Remain current on municipal, federal and police matters by monitoring information distributed on a variety of email systems and info webs.
