Description TITLE: SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to assist with traffic flow in front of a school and assist children and adults across the street to school. Employees in this classification ensure safe conditions at school crossings; direct traffic; assist buses and ensure the general safety of school areas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Directs and controls the flow of traffic in school zones to allow the school children to cross streets during school opening and closing hours. Keeps children at curbs until traffic lanes are clear in all directions. Leads school children across streets. Reports traffic violators in school zones. Reports unsafe conditions of roads, sidewalks, streetlights, and traffic control devices. Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as required. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; no previous experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Responsibilities
