Description

As the Policy Advisor you will be responsible for providing a full range of legal services to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s (NHVR) operational, strategy and corporate areas and ensure the NHVR is appropriately represented in complex legal matters.
Reporting to the Manager Principal Policy Advisor - Access, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of heavy vehicle access and productivity reforms via the development, delivery and maintenance of policies and regulations. This will be achieved by driving national harmonisation of heavy vehicle access across all states and territories; comparing existing, delivering new or updating regulatory requirements; devising innovative solutions aimed at providing best practice approaches and addressing inconsistencies to heavy vehicle access and productivity; and consulting with state and territory jurisdiction stakeholders, peak industry bodies and road managers.
Key responsibilities of this role are:
Policy Development: Research, draft, and refine policies and regulations related to heavy vehicle access.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with federal, state, and local governments, industry bodies, and road managers.
Project Support: Assist in delivering national access projects and initiatives within set timeframes.
Strategic Input: Contribute to continuous improvement of operational and strategic policies.
Communication: Prepare briefings, reports, and correspondence that clearly communicate policy positions and findings.
Compliance & Safety: Adhere to NHVR policies and promote a safe work environment.
