Within the Innovation, Privacy and Policy Division, the Privacy, Policy and Governance Branch enables government transparency and accountability by delivering enterprise and department policy and program services for content management, data, privacy, technology and access to information. The Branch also enhances the strategic capacity of the department and the integration of data, content, technology, access to information, and privacy initiatives across the department. Core to this function is leadership on high-priority department initiatives. The Branch provides strategic and proactive policy coordination and strategic engagement planning and advice, to support department priorities and business outcomes.
The Strategic Engagement Team is one of two core teams within the Strategic Policy Services Unit in the Privacy, Policy, and Governance Branch. The Strategic Engagement Team is responsible for strategic engagement advice and services for Executive and Minister-level engagements, including intergovernmental and international relations
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- A related university degree (e.g., Political Science, Business Administration, Business, International or Intergovernmental Relations.), supplemented by at least two (2) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Cover letter detailing how your skills and experience align with the role’s responsibilities, used to assess writing and communication skills.
- Knowledge of intergovernmental and international relations, stakeholder engagement, event management, and applicable policies.
Assets:
- Familiarity with the Government of Alberta’s policies, standards, and frameworks.
- Experience with government mission planning.
- Experience coordinating strategic events for senior officials.

A related two-year diploma and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience; or a minimum of six (6) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

As a Policy Analyst, Strategic Engagement, you will be at the forefront of advancing provincial priorities in intergovernmental and international relations. Working closely with senior leadership and program teams, you’ll develop strategies, analyze critical issues, and ensure that every engagement aligns with departmental goals and priorities. This role is your chance to drive outcomes for the technology and innovation sector on a provincial, intergovernmental, and global scale.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing strategic engagement plans aligned with departmental priorities.
- Conducting research and analysis to provide comprehensive understanding of key issues and priorities.
- Maintaining accurate events and intergovernmental trackers for efficient decision-making.
- Supporting mission planning for the Minister and Executive, including travel approvals, briefing packages, and logistics coordination.
- Collaborating with program areas to prepare materials for strategic engagements.
- Preparing briefing materials such as action requests, plans, policy packages, and meeting agendas.
- Analyzing information to identify issues, propose resolutions, and provide well-researched recommendations.
- Building and maintaining relationships across the Ministry and government to ensure alignment with strategic engagement outcomes.
