If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Policy & Briefings Senior Advisor to join our team at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and we’d love to hear from you!
This is a key role at the heart of a major Government programme, making a tangible difference for the communities we serve. We are looking for candidates with experience in briefing and policy development who are looking to bring their expertise to a high profile and sensitive environment. You will play an instrumental role in supporting the Government’s engagement with the community (Ministerial and official), to support their recovery. You will also support the process to determine a fitting memorial on the site.
The response to the Grenfell Tower fire remains high profile and forms a key part of the government’s commitment to support those affected and maintain the highest standards in our support for bereaved families, survivors and local residents, alongside wider policy work on the legacy from the tragedy.
This role requires working with stakeholders across government which will help you build your network and position you for a range of future career options. There will be opportunity to shape the role to align with the candidate’s interests and development goals. JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Policy & Briefings Senior Advisor:

  • you will lead on the development and coordination of high-quality cross cutting, and strategic briefings, submissions and other products for ministers and senior stakeholders on key issues affecting the Grenfell community
  • you will apply an understanding of the big picture using insight from community engagement and the wider political context to respond to a variety of commissions across policy teams and develop effective policy solutions
  • you will have good attention to detail and strong organisational skills to deliver, monitor and track a variety of policy products across the directorate, wider policy teams, and central strategy teams. This can include briefing for ministerial meetings with stakeholders, parliamentary debates, committees and oral parliamentary questions, and support on correspondence, PQs and other strategic commissions as part of the wider team
  • you will be a strong communicator, and confident in briefing and engaging Ministers and senior officials, in writing or in person, with continued support and input from your colleagues
  • you will build excellent relationships and collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders on key policy areas including building safety, health, education, and social housing
  • you will need to have a strong sense of initiative, be comfortable working flexibly beyond team boundaries, developing an understanding of a range of policy issues and working with teams to deliver on priorities
  • you will work with private offices and the communications team, to support engagement with key stakeholders in the department and across government to facilitate key public announcements, Ministerial engagement, and Parliamentary debates
