Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

National Grid sits at the heart of Britain’s energy system, connecting millions of people and businesses safely, reliably, and efficiently to the energy they use every day. At National Grid we are embarking on the largest overhaul of the electricity grid in generations and over the five years to 2029, we will be investing over £30 billion to upgrade our electricity networks across England and Wales. This will enable the Government’s core missions to kickstart economic growth and make Britain a clean energy superpower, supporting 55,000 more jobs by the end of the decade.
The scale and pace of transformation required across our energy system is truly unprecedented.
As a Policy Manager , you will play a crucial role in delivering integrated campaigns on strategic issues that matter. You will work closely with the Senior Policy Manager to shape policy messages and support corporate strategic campaigns. Your expertise will help us engage effectively with parliamentarians, government officials, think tanks, and other influential groups.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Collaborate and Create: Work closely with colleagues to draft compelling written responses to Government consultations and Parliamentary inquiries, ensuring our voice is heard loud and clear.
  • Shape Our Narrative: Partner with Corporate Affairs Business Partners to proactively develop and refine policy positions that align with our overarching company narrative.
  • Drive Policy Prioritisation: Support our annual policy prioritisation process by engaging with all UK business units and ensuring seamless alignment with our US colleagues.
  • Analyse and Adapt: Proactively monitor policy developments, identifying opportunities and threats from various political and media channels. You’ll assess their potential impact on our business and recommend strategies for Corporate Affairs to mitigate risks.
  • Provide Insight: Draft insightful briefing notes for the UK Executive team to keep them informed about key policy developments that could affect our operations.
  • Network and Influence: Attend external functions and networking events to create opportunities for National Grid to influence policy proactively.
  • Build Relationships: Cultivate strong connections with government bodies and industry associations to gather up-to-date policy intelligence and actively influence policy decisions.
  • Share Intelligence: Document and distribute critical intelligence promptly to relevant internal stakeholders, and take action where necessary to ensure we stay ahead of the curve.
