THIS IS AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE POLITICAL ADVICE AND SUPPORT TO THE ISLINGTON LABOUR GROUP. YOU WILL BE SUPPORTING THEM TO DELIVER ISLINGTON COUNCIL’S BOLD VISION OF CREATING A MORE EQUAL ISLINGTON.

You will assist the Labour Group of councillors in their duties as elected members, including local ward communications, helping in their roles as community champions and the planning & delivery of local community campaign.

As Political Assistant, you’ll be a key part of the Labour Group’s communications, campaigns, and strategic engagement. You’ll:

  • Provide tailored political advice and support to councillors and the Executive.
  • Coordinate media responses and manage internal communications.
  • Create engaging content for websites and social media.
  • Support public affairs work, including liaising with MPs, Ministers, and key stakeholders.
  • Organise and facilitate policy meetings, briefings, and campaign planning.
  • Stay on top of current affairs and contribute to the wider political strategy.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

We’re looking for someone with a mix of political insight, communication flair, and organisational strength. You’ll need:

  • Experience working in a political environment, ideally with elected representatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A good understanding of local government issues.
  • Flexibility to attend evening and occasional weekend meetings.
  • A commitment to equalities and the Council’s Dignity for All policy.
