Job Description
Job title: Polysomnographer
Job Summary:
As a Polysomnographer, you will be responsible for conducting and analyzing sleep diagnostic tests, monitoring patients’ sleep patterns, and assisting in diagnosing sleep disorders. You will collaborate with medical professionals in providing accurate data to help develop suitable treatment plans. Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in operating sleep monitoring equipment are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Perform sleep studies using Polysomnography equipment to monitor brain waves, eye movements, heart rate, respiratory patterns, and other physiological parameters.
2. Assist and educate patients regarding sleep studies, procedures, and equipment used during overnight stays.
3. Conduct patient visits to explain test results and collaborate with medical professionals to determine treatment plans.
4. Calibrate and maintain sleep monitoring equipment to ensure accurate and reliable recordings.
5. Document observations, analyze sleep study results, and prepare reports for the healthcare team.
6. Recognize and troubleshoot technical issues related to sleep monitoring equipment.
7. Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures during sleep studies.
8. Keep abreast of advancements in sleep study techniques and equipment.
9. Assist in training new Polysomnography technicians and ensure adherence to established protocols.
10. Maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient records and data.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Polysomnography program preferred.
2. Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent.
3. A minimum of [X] years of experience in conducting sleep studies and analyzing results.
4. Proficient in operating Polysomnography equipment and associated software.
5. Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, medical professionals, and support staff.
