Description
A Polysomnographic Technician performs comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education under the general supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the Board-Certified Sleep Physician. Education Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED Additional requirements: § Type of degree: N/A § Area of study or major: N/A § Preferred educational qualifications: Basic Medical Terminology, moderate computer skills Must be enrolled in and have completed the A-STEP Online Self Study Modules within two years of enrollment. Or Must be enrolled in or have completed training in polysomnography in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option. The Registry exam must be passed within one year of completion of the A-Step program. Must also participate in at least 30 credits (averaged 10 per year over the past 36 months) of sleep related continuing education credits.
Responsibilities
The Polysomnographic Technician conducts comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and home sleep apnea testing and performing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. This role involves comprehensive patient care and direct patient education under the supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or Sleep Physician.
