POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Regional Clinical Manager and the Medical Director or the Medical Director’s designee, the Polysomnographic Trainee / Technician / Technologist performs adult and pediatric sleep studies. Trainees and Technicians work under the guidance of a technologist. Responsibilities are to include:

  • Explain testing procedures to patient
  • Apply all recording and monitoring electrodes
  • Recognize and eliminate artifacts within PSG
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot all equipment as needed to maintain quality data
  • Apply appropriate testing and therapies as ordered and according to protocol
  • Train Polysomnographic new hires and trainees under guidelines set forth by Persante and associated accrediting agencies.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (ANY OF THE FOLLOWING):

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
  • Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • RRT with Sleep Disorders Specialty (RRT-SDS)
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
  • CRT with Sleep Disorders Specialty (CRT-SDS)
  • Sleep Technicians
  • Sleep Trainees (currently enrolled in or recently completed an accredited sleep program)

LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

Must hold an active state licensure to practice in sleep medicine or respiratory care, as required by state regulations.

EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience in sleep medicine is preferred but not required for Sleep Trainees.

EDUCATION:

An Associate’s Degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy, Polysomnography, or a related field is preferred.
