Description Position Overview The Pool Director oversees the activities, safety protocols, and maintenance of the ECC Pool. Creates a welcoming, safe recreation area for members, guests, and staff. Responsible for all facets of developing, managing, promoting, and coordinating comprehensive pool activities for members and guests of the Club. Key Responsibilities Facilities Management In charge of seasonal daily operation of the swimming pool. Maintains pool records and prepares reports and memos regarding pool activities. Works with Building Engineer to ensure pool and pool area are ready to open for the season. Monitors safety and hygiene standards as recommended by the local health department, federal requirements, and American Red Cross including compliance of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act and the Minnesota Abigail Taylor Pool and Spa Safety Act. Monitors the maintenance of safety and sanitation standards, conducting regular checks and ensuring logbooks are properly kept. Monitors the use of equipment and supplies. Identifies maintenance issues and reports them to the and Engineering staff, Grounds Crew, and or General Manager. Inspects pool and related facility daily prior to the opening of the pool and ascertains that all necessary maintenance and safety protocols have been performed. Keeps the Building Engineer, appropriate Grounds Crew staff, and General Manager informed on status of pool facility and related equipment. Oversees cleaning of pool area. Pool Program Management Manages the execution of aquatic programs such as swim lesson registration, recreation swimming, swim lessons, adult lap swim by the Aquatics Operations manager. Ensures programs are in place at the Club to service the entire membership (juniors, adults, seniors, etc.) Organizes periodic special events at the Club to attract and retain members’ aquatic interests. Enforces all the club’s/facilities rules and regulations governing the use of the facility, its equipment and other property. Establishes and implements pool safety standards and emergency procedures and trains staff in each of these areas. Personnel Ensures pool facility is staffed with appropriate personnel. Maintains current records of certifications held by all ECC Aquatic staff. Oversees all recruiting and staffing of qualified pool staff. Works directly with Human Resources & Aquatics Operations Manager to meet and fulfil staffing needs. Oversees all aspects of Aquatics staff payroll. Assists HR with all on-boarding and all new hire orientation procedures. Assigns, in detail, specific duties to all employees under supervision for efficient and safe operation of aquatic programs and activities. Responsible for employee performance; coaches, counsels, delivers difficult news and carries out the appropriate level of discipline while abiding by club policies and precedence. Oversees pool staff schedules and problem-solving as needed. Manages and supervises all aquatic activities, programs, and related events. Supervises Aquatics Operations Manager, Deck Managers, and Lifeguards. Trains, orients, and counsels pool staff as to their responsibilities in the pool area including safety protocols. Member & Club Communications Maintains good member and guest relations. Receives and responds to member and guest complaints and suggestions. Makes every reasonable effort to continually improve the way the job is performed and increase the quality of service to members and guests. Communicates with appropriate pool staff and/or parents as necessary regarding individual youth’s performance and/or special needs. Provides guidance to the Pool Committee for the proper programming based on personnel and funds necessary for operational management. Other Duties Maintains peer relationships with the other club professionals (golf, tennis, f&b etc.) Responsible for writing articles for the member newsletter when requested. Works in tandem with General Manager to prepare and adhere to operating and capital budget. Sits on the Pool Committee during the pool season and in the off-season. Attends and participates in team, departmental, and Club meetings as requested. Off Season Duties Pool Committee (Create agendas, run meetings, submit minutes, and Board report for off season Pool Committee Meetings.) Registration (Aid in the set up and facilitation of Swim Team and Dive Team registrations.) Personnel (Hire, interview, and coordinate needed job postings with HR for the upcoming season) Pre­Season Prep (De­winterize, clean, and facilitate the set up of the pool deck, Guard Shack, and Pool Office. Train staff and organize pre­season certification needs for lifeguards and coaches as needed.) Post­Season Strike (Facilitate the prep of the above listed spaces for winter. Ensure all towels are washed, counted, and properly stored for the winter.) Ordering (Ensure orders are placed as needed to necessary items items are available/installed by the beginning of the season. This includes but is not limited to; uniforms, swim and dive team ribbons and other needs, lifeguarding equipment, office/shack replacement supplies, pool deck needs.) Budget (Work with the General Manager and Club Controller to create the annual operating budget for the Aquatics department.) Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Three (3) years in related field(s) High school diploma/G.E.D American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer & American Red Cross First Aid Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification (Preferred) American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification (Preferred) - Lifeguard certification training available for qualified candidates. Proven knowledge of pool management, including maintenance, safety, and sanitation methods and standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to evaluate lifeguard skills and provide training where needed. Ability to effectively communicate with groups participating in pool activities, and to provide necessary instruction to members and/or staff. Ability to communicate and train staff and members in safety regulations and emergency procedures. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork. Ability to prioritize, anticipate situations, and take quick action. Ability to manage multiple projects and recommend/implement effective solutions. Ability to observe youth behavior to assess appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and provide guidance and discipline.
