Posting Date: January 15, 2026 Closing Date: March 2, 2026 Start date: May 4 ,2026 Number of openings: 11 - Temporary part-time Work location: Devon Community Pool, 34 Haven Ave, Devon, Alberta T9G 1K2 Town of Devon Position Description Position Description: Lifeguard/Instructor 1 The Lifeguard/Instructor 1 position is a seasonal position with the Town of Devon for the months of May through to the September long weekend. This is the ideal job if you are a lifeguard who likes swimming and being outside.  This lifeguard position involves guarding of public swim programs, teaching swimming lessons, performing first aid as required, conducting maintenance, and cleaning the facility and surrounding areas.     The Lifeguard/Instructor 1 works closely under the direction of the Lifeguard/Instructors 2,3, and 4. This is a part-time position with a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week. A Lifeguard/Instructor 1 must be available for days, evenings and weekends and other shifts as required. Key Responsibilities * Provide pool supervision to all pool patrons and implement a high quality of customer service. * Demonstrate competency in aquatic lifesaving skills and in aquatic lesson instruction. * Instruct aquatic lessons for children, youth, and adults. * Prepare lesson plans, evaluate performance, and write progress cards. * Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, hygienic and safe environment for customers and staff. * Respond to incidents that occur in the aquatic area or the facility. * Complete all maintenance and administrative duties as required. * Actively participate in mandatory in-service training events. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Pre-requisites:  * Minimum of 16 years of age. * Possess current NL pool Certification and AEC (Aquatic Emergency Care) or other Alberta workplace approved Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level”C”. * Possess Current Lifesaving Society’s Swim Instructor (SI). * Commitment to continuously improve swimming lesson results.  * Ability to demonstrate excellent communication and instructional skills. * Aptitude in resolving conflict using diplomacy and problem-solving skills. * Assist co-workers and supervisors with tasks whenever needed. * Sport Coach Level 1, SwimAblilites Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) award, Lifesaving Society Sport Coach Level 1, and Aqua-fit Instructor would be considered an asset. Experience:  * Experience working at a pool lifeguarding and teaching lessons would be an asset.  * Current awards and certifications must be attached with application. Proof of current certifications/awards will be required before application can be considered or be furthered to the interview stage. * Satisfactory Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Persons Check must be provided prior to starting.
