Position title: Lifeguard/Instructor 2 Position type: Seasonal Part-time Salary: $ 23.71hr – $ 24.34/hr Classification title:  Supervisory Department: Community Services Reports to: Lifeguard 4, Manager of Parks, Recreation & Culture or designate Posting Date: January 15, 2026 Closing Date: March 2, 2026 Start Date: May 4 ,2026 Number of openings: 9 – Seasonal, part-time Work location(s): Devon Community Pool, 34 Haven Ave, Devon, Alberta T9G 1K2 Hours of work: This is a part-time position with a minimum of 10 hours and maximum of 40 hours per week.  Hours given at the discretion of your supervisor, beginning on or before May 2026 and ending on or before September 2026.  Town of Devon Position Description Position Description: Pool Lifeguard/ Instructor 2 Lifeguard/Instructor 2 is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town of Devon Community Pool.  This position oversees operations and safety aspects of the pool, organizes pool activities and special events, organizes lesson worksheets for instructors, supervises part-time and seasonal lifeguards, and ensures safety requirements are met through inspection of practices and equipment; as well the Lifeguard/Instructor 2 is required to teach lessons for children, youth, and adults and, if qualified, lesson participants with differing abilities.   This is a part-time position has a minimum of 10 hours and maximum of 40 hours per week.      The successful candidate must be available for evenings and weekends, as well as day-time hours.   Key Responsibilities * Lifeguarding and instructing. * Ensure proper opening and closing procedures are followed and mentor other staff in doing so. * Provide high quality pool supervision and exceptional customer service to all pool patrons. * Respond to incidents that occur in the aquatic area or the facility and provide support for other staff doing the same. * Instruct bronze courses, aquatic lessons for children, youth, adults, and/or community members with differing abilities. * Prepare lessons, evaluations, and progress cards and mentor Lifeguard/Instructor 1’s in doing so.  * Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, hygienic and safe environment for customers and staff by assisting with any maintenance issues that arise throughout the season, maintain pool chemistry and pool operations making sure the pool is safe, effective, and in working order. * Help train staff in the operations of daily cleaning, equipment maintenance and water chemistry. * Provide mentorship and supervision to staff. * Maintain and mentor positive public relations between staff and the public. * Promote the pool and its programmed activities. * Assist Lifeguard/Instructor 4 in mentoring Instructors by preparing lesson worksheets, assisting lesson plan preparation, and observing report cards completion. * Plan and implement special events as well as advertising and promotion or, * Run the Volunteer Program and Deep End Club and all activities, planning and promoting involved. * Ensure that all Health and Safety standards are met and organize SDS, PPE, and perform monthly Hazard Assessments and reporting including safety operations. * Actively participate in mandatory in-service training events. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Pre-requisites:  * NL Pool (National Lifeguard Pool) Certification. * Intermediate First Aid (IFA), and CPR level C. * Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructor (SI) Certification, Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Swim Instructor (LSI). * SwimAblilites Instructor, Aquafit Instructor, Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1, Intermediate First Aid Instructor, Synchronized Swimming or Diving and other aquatic awards would be considered an asset * Lifesaving Society’s Competency Level 3 or higher would be an asset  * Swimming Pool Operator 1 (Pool Operators would be an asset). * Cash handling experience. * Satisfactory Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Persons Check must be provided prior to starting * Valid Class 5 Drivers License and provide a drivers abstract on request. * Individual must demonstrate that they can work independently as well as with a group. Conditions of Employment:  * At least two years of experience in a senior guarding position that included supervision of staff. * Current awards and certifications must be attached with application. Proof of current certifications/awards will be required before application can be considered or be furthered to the interview stage.
