Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Port Engineer to join our Hamburg Office. As part of the Civil Group, the Port Engineer assists the planning, design and plan production for general civil engineering on a wide variety of port projects which may include site civil design for marine terminals and landside facilities, rough and precise grading for container yards and access roads, dredging for navigation channels and berth pockets, drainage design accounting for tidal influences, and utility design including sanitary sewer systems, potable and non-potable water supply, fire water systems, and storm drain networks with appropriate outfall structures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering required
  • 1-3 years of experience as a civil engineer, preferably with experience in port planning and engineering of maritime structures
  • AutoCAD and MS Office proficiency
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

No unusual physical requirements, able to navigate unpaved terrain

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists and supports the design of port infrastructure projects by studying project concepts, marine terminal layouts, and architectural and engineering drawings
  • Aids in the preparation of civil and marine engineering designs by collecting and analyzing site investigation reports, hydrographic surveys, geotechnical data, bathymetric maps, and tidal information relevant to port environments
  • Supports cost analysis
  • Contributes to feasibility studies by evaluating marine engineering designs, conducting coastal and environmental impact assessments, and compiling port operations data
  • Assists in developing engineering documentation by preparing detailed specifications, construction drawings, and phased construction schedules for port structures such as quay walls, wharves, and container yards
  • Ensures adherence to construction specifications and safety regulations by monitoring site activities and inspecting works
  • Maintains project database by writing computer programs, entering data, and completing backups
