Our client operates one of the UK’s busiest and most dynamic ports With a strong emphasis on operational excellence, safety, and efficiency, the port handles a wide range of vessel traffic and cargo. They are currently seeking a dedicated Port Operations Supervisor to lead a high-performing operations team and ensure seamless vessel turnaround and transit call management.

PORT OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR – SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven background in managing port operations, particularly vessel loading and discharging.
  • Experience operating or overseeing the use of port equipment such as Tug Masters and Forklift Trucks.
  • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach to team management and performance development.
  • A proactive and safety-conscious mindset with a track record of maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to give clear instructions and maintain strong team morale.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, changeable environment with shifting priorities.
  • Competent in using IT systems for scheduling, reporting, and daily operational oversight.
  • Full UK driving licence required; HGV Class 1 licence is desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff, resources, and time effectively under pressure.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily port operations, ensuring vessel arrivals, discharges, and loading are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Lead, coach, and support the operational team to meet performance targets and maintain high safety standards.
  • Deliver operational plans by assigning tasks, providing guidance, and ensuring all team members have the training and information required.
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams and third-party service providers to ensure seamless vessel turnaround and service delivery.
  • Monitor compliance with health and safety policies, statutory requirements, and port regulations at all times.
  • Identify and address any operational issues or delays, adjusting resources as needed to meet service expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for all port activities, supporting operational transparency and accountability.
  • Support continuous improvement by suggesting and implementing process enhancements that improve safety, efficiency, or service quality.
