SUMMARY

The Deckhand for the Portage Glacier Cruise is responsible for assisting with vessel operations, ensuring passenger safety, and providing excellent customer service. This position supports the captain and crew in the daily operation of the vessel, including deck maintenance, docking procedures, and guest interaction. The ideal candidate is hardworking, safety-conscious, and enjoys working in an outdoor, maritime environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including cold, wind, and rain.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to [insert weight] pounds.
  • Requires agility and balance to navigate a moving vessel safely.
  • Must be available to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in maritime operations, deckhand duties, or customer service is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of vessel safety and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Comfortable working on the water and following safety protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with vessel docking, mooring, and departure procedures.
  • Ensure passenger safety by monitoring onboard activity and assisting in emergency situations.
  • Provide excellent customer service, welcoming guests aboard and assisting with any inquiries.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the vessel, including decks, seating areas, and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and assist with minor repairs as needed.
  • Assist with safety briefings, emergency drills, and life-saving equipment checks.
  • Support the captain and crew with operational tasks and follow all maritime safety regulations.
  • Handle ropes, lines, and other deck equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Comply with company policies and U.S. Coast Guard regulations regarding vessel operations.
