The organization has evolved into one of the nation’s preeminent reentry and justice-informed service organizations, providing formerly incarcerated people with the skills and wrap-around services needed to break the cycle of crime and incarceration and to build productive lives in their communities. Fortune has grown steadily over the years to an agency with close to $90 million in annual budget with just under 600 staff. We anticipate that we will keep growing, both in size and depth of service. Fortune has a dual mission: both advocacy and service. The advocacy portion of our mission focuses on building a more just criminal legal system and reducing the barriers to reentry into society. The service side of Fortune has evolved to encompass a broad range of programs that started with employment and education and now includes a robust array of services, among them: alternatives to incarceration, supervised release, court advocacy, discharge planning within correctional facilities, licensed substance use and mental health treatment, a housing continuum ranging from emergency and transitional through permanent congregate and scattered site housing, assistance in obtaining benefits, a care management unit, HIV services, a food and nutrition program, and an arts program. Each service we provide is informed by the needs of the population we serve. Fortune currently serves approximately 14,000 people a year.. Our program models are recognized, both nationally and internationally, for their quality and innovation. We have locations in Brooklyn, The Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. Position Summary: Responsible for keeping Scattered-site apartments in a clean, safe and orderly condition by performing periodic clean-outs, inspections, etc. in various apartments throughout the boroughs. On days where assigned to Facilities Management in other buildings, assist with cleaning offices and common spaces, as well as periodic heavy-cleaning activities, servicing and restocking restrooms, moving furniture and other assigned duties. Cleaning Duties: Must demonstrate the abilities to clean the agency facilities with a keen eye to details in accordance with the agency standards Following Direction: Must be able to follow work schedule and instructions from supervisor. Attendance and Punctuality: Maintains a regular and reliable level of attendance and punctuality. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work remotely in various scattered-site apartments throughout the boroughs to do clean-outs, move in furniture, and make minor repairs as directed. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming; Service, clean and supply restrooms; Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors; Gather and empty trash; Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures; Dust furniture, walls, machines and equipment; Clean and polish furniture and fixtures; Requisition supplies or equipment as needed; Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies either manually or by using hand trucks; Shampoo carpets; Strip, seal, finish and polish floors; Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs and ladders as needed; Secure building by performing tasks such as locking doors and windows after operating hours; Replace lamps and ballasts as needed; Deliver packages to agency staff; Serve as assistant fire warden during fire drills and real emergencies; and Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications: High school diploma or GED/HSE preferred; At least 2 years of experience stripping, sealing, finishing, burnishing and buffing vinyl composition tile (VCT) required; At least 2 years of experience operation light and heavy duty cleaning machines including, but not limited to, auto-scrubbers, floor machines, burnishers and stand up and shop vacuums required; At least 2 years of experience spotting and extracting carpets required; Knowledge of best cleaning practices required; Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and chemicals to maintain floors required; and Ability to work independently while at the same time taking direction and keeping management informed. Travel Requirements: Will be required to work in scattered-site apartments throughout the boroughs and travel to other Agency properties as directed.
