PARTICULAR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR APPOINTMENT:

You will be entitled to receive 1 months’ notice of termination of employment and are required to give North Bristol NHS Trust 3 months’ notice.
North Bristol NHS Trust employs over 12,000 staff providing healthcare to the residents of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset from our award-winning hospital building at Southmead. We are the regional Major Trauma Centre, and an internationally recognised centre of excellence in a range of services and major specialities. Our vision is that by enabling our teams to be the best that they can be, we will provide exceptional healthcare, personally delivered.
North Bristol NHS Trust values all people as individuals. We aim to be an anti-discriminatory organisation and are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We welcome applicants from all underrepresented groups.
The post will provide the necessary training with access to appropriate specialties, to enable the post holder to collect sufficient evidence of experience and training to present to the RCoS equivalence committee for inclusion on the specialist register and therefore eligibility to apply for consultant posts. This evidence is collected in the same way as a trainee with a national training number (NTN), submitting assessments, reflections and feedback in line with the 2021 urology curriculum, using the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Platform (ISCP), under the guidance of educational supervisors.
Post holders would be expected to provide an out-of-hours service commitment, working alongside doctors in training with the same level of supervision.
The post holder will spend one year in each trust starting at the North Bristol NHS Trust rotating through Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, and Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The order of the rotation will be confirmed on appointment. To mirror the experience of our current HEE-trainees there may be a placement with one of our DGH partners.
To improve clinical skills in Urology commencing at ST3 level. To engage in research, teaching or Quality Improvement Activities, under the guidance of an Educational Supervisor, with a view to gaining the required competencies to progress to portfolio pathway entrance onto the specialist register.
A degree of service commitment would be expected, however there will be protected training time to enable the necessary experience and training to be accessed and evidenced. An annual appraisal (ARCP) will take place under the guidance of portfolio pathway-programme leads to ensure adequate progress is being made. Whereas support and expertise will be available to access the training curriculum and monitor progress in the same way as our trainees, presenting this evidence to the Royal College of Surgeons is the responsibility of the post-holder. Progression is subject to successfully achieving these development goals
