The Crown Solicitor leads the Office and is one of four Principals within Crown Law, including the Solicitor-General, State Litigator and the Director of Public Prosecutions. Leading and managing a team of more than 30 staff and supported by the Director Crown Law, the Crown Solicitor is responsible for the delivery of high-quality advice, negotiation and drafting of agreements in a range of commercial, property and leasing transactions, major infrastructure and construction projects, financing, procurement and intellectual property matters. The Crown Solicitor reports to the Secretary of the Department of Justice and acts independently in matters of professional judgment. PERIOD OF APPOINTMENT Fixed term for a period of up to 5 years HOURS PER FORTNIGHT 73.50 hours per fortnight  DUTIES * Overall supervision, administration and direction of the legal work of the Office of the Crown Solicitor. * Lead the Office of the Crown Solicitor by providing strategic direction and oversight, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and values as well as leading change initiatives to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment. * Exercising professional judgement, provide, or supervise the provision of, legal advice and transactional legal services to the Tasmanian Government, its agencies and instrumentalities in relation to commercial, property and financial matters. * Provide professional supervision to all legal practitioners in the Office of the Crown Solicitor including guiding, mentoring, coaching and performance management. * Maintain productive working relationships with external and internal stakeholders. * Collaborate with the Solicitor-General, State Litigator and Director of Public Prosecutions as required in the management of Crown Law. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS * Legal practitioner of at least 10 years standing. * Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
