The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School and provides most public specialist medical services for southern Tasmania. The Royal Hobart Hospital Ophthalmology Department has consultants with a broad range of subspecialty interests including vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina, glaucoma, cornea, oculoplastic, orbital, and paediatric ophthalmology and genetic eye disease. The Eye Clinic is well-appointed with up-to-date facilities and equipment. The Ophthalmology Department provides an active teaching and research program in conjunction with the University of Tasmania. The unaccredited ophthalmology registrar roster includes subspecialty and general ophthalmology clinics, laser clinics, injection clinics and operating theatre sessions. The registrar will work in a team with 3 accredited Ophthalmology trainees and take part in the 1 in 4 after-hours on-call roster. This recruitment campaign may also be used to appoint a suitable candidate to an ophthalmology registrar position in the Northwest region of Tasmania.
