POSITION SUMMARY

The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs Post-Award Manager provides post-award research and federal grant services to Concordia University personnel. This position reports to the Director of the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP). This is a full-time, 12-month position that is located on the Mequon, Wisconsin campus, and involves limited travel to the Concordia University Ann Arbor campus and partner institutions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of federal regulations and policies governing sponsored research
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to plan, schedule, and manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Must be results- and goal- oriented, able to work both in a team environment and independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
  • Ability to provide quality customer service in an efficient and effective manner
  • Ability to work through complex problems independently with incomplete information by utilizing analytical and critical thinking skills and employing the correct external resources
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Ability to independently manage multiple, concurrent projects, and still meet strict deadlines
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least two years of experience in research or grants administration in a higher education/research environment
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Master’s degree and/or experience doing research or applying for grants preferred
  • Certificate in Research Administration or willingness to pursue preferred

Responsibilities

Assumes primary responsibility for post-award functions of the ORSP, providing support and post-award research administration services through the life cycle of sponsored projects. The Post-Award Manager:

  • Manages all award negotiation, acceptance, and set-up tasks
  • Trains personnel on the post-award process
  • Holds biweekly grant project management meetings with project personnel and Principal Investigators to ensure successful projects and compliant project management
  • Maintains positive institutional relationships with potential and actual Prime awardees (Medical College of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University, etc.)
  • Maintains comprehensive calendar of all active grant upcoming due dates and important milestones
  • Completes procurement tasks for all active grants
  • Completes quarterly billing for all active grants
  • Supports PIs and Finance in grant accounting
  • Assists PIs in report preparation and submission
  • Maintains grants database and metrics for ORSP
  • Works collaboratively with Office of Advancement as needed
  • Maintains federal site memberships and accounts
  • Maintains university’s UIE status and other necessary administrative requirements
  • Maintains current knowledge of grants landscape, federal regulations, and 2CRF200 Uniform Guidance
