Description
The Rehab Neural Engineering Labs in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh are seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for a post-doctoral research position in spinal cord neural interface development for restoring sensations from prosthetic limbs. The post-doctoral research fellow will be working closely with a team of neural engineers and clinicians to develop a spinal cord stimulation system to restore somatosensory feedback and reduce phantom limb pain in this translational project. With the supervision and support from the faculty, the postdoctoral research fellow is expected to take a leadership role and work independently in experiment design, data collection, data analysis, and paper publication. They will be encouraged to develop independent research projects/expertise and develop individual fellowship grant proposals. There will be opportunities to closely interact with multiple faculty investigators from clinical, engineering, and basic science departments across the University of Pittsburgh campus. The position involves the following research areas: Neuroimaging of brain activity associated with limb amputation and phantom limb pain (MEG and fMRI) Implementation of a clinical trial of spinal cord stimulation to restore sensation and treat phantom limb pain in people with lower-limb amputation The ideal candidate will have the following qualities: A recently completed PhD or equivalent degree in biomedical engineering or a related field Deep knowledge of somatosensory neurophysiology and/or neural engineering Experience with neural stimulation and design/testing of neural interfaces Expertise with Matlab and/or Python software packages Evidence of scholarship; e.g., peer-reviewed publications Alternatively, exceptional candidates with more traditional backgrounds in neuroscience, robotics, or electrical engineering may be considered if they have an interest in a neural engineering research career. The successful applicant will be joining a multidisciplinary team including scientists, engineers, and clinicians to design, develop, and test cutting-edge neural interfaces to restore sensory function and understand phantom limb pain for projects focused on clinical translation of somatosensory neuroprostheses. Interested candidates should apply to Requisition #25005246 at join.pitt.edu.
