POST DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE
Med-Microbiology and Molecular Genetics - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25002586)
A postdoctoral associate position is available in Dr. Gary Thomas’s laboratory within the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to investigate the neurodevelopmental disorder PACS1 syndrome. This NIH-funded position will build upon our recent discovery, using mouse models and patient-derived neurons, to uncover the mechanisms underlying this disorder and identify potential therapeutic approaches (PMID: 37848409).
The position will utilize biochemistry and cell biology techniques, along with electrophysiology, proteomics, and RNA-seq, to explore how the mutant PACS1 disrupts neuronal proteostasis, leading to the misfolding of essential cellular proteins that ultimately affect gene expression in vivo. The successful candidate will collaborate with team members in structural biology and psychiatry to comprehensively determine, from the atomic level to the whole organism, how mutant PACS1 causes disease.
Applicants must hold a PhD or an equivalent degree in neuroscience, systems biology, or cell biology, and possess the ability to design and conduct experiments, interpret results, write publications and grant applications, and present findings at scientific meetings. Qualified candidates should apply at joinpitt.edu to requisition #25002586.
