Description
The Cheng Zhang lab (https://www.czhanglab.org/) at the University of Pittsburgh has NIH-funded and biotech-funded openings for talented postdoctoral researchers. We use cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and cell-based signaling assays to study signaling mechanisms of cell surface receptors such as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). We also develop therapeutic antibodies through multiple approaches, including yeast display, and perform structure-based drug design. See our most recent publications in Nature 2025 (PMID: 40533560), Science Advances 2024 (PMID: 38198545), Nature Communications 2023 (PMID: 37709767), Nature Communications 2022 (PMID: 35217703). We have multiple ongoing projects in the lab focusing on receptors that regulate innate and adaptive immunity. We are looking for postdoctoral researchers to contribute to one of the following projects (either one): 1) Structures of receptor signaling complexes. Prior experience in cryo-EM data collection and structure determination is required. The lab has regular access to several cryo-electron microscopes, including a Titan Krios, at the University of Pittsburgh cryo-EM core. 2) Pharmacological characterization of GPCR ligands. Prior experience in cell-based signaling assays and cell imaging is preferred. 3) Structure-based drug design. Prior experience in computational biology is required. Candidates for this position must have a PhD degree in a relevant research field and have effective writing and communication skills. Pittsburgh has been selected as one of the most livable cities in the US. The University of Pittsburgh is ranked among the top 10 NIH-funded institutions in the US.
Responsibilities
The postdoctoral researchers will contribute to projects involving the study of receptor signaling mechanisms and the development of therapeutic antibodies. They will utilize techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy and cell-based assays.
