THE POSITION

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to become part of our dynamic team in the Computational Sciences Department (gCS) within Genentech’s Research & Development division (gRED). The successful candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of the Computational Biology, Translational Medicine and Technology Innovation groups to study cancer biology using deep clinicogenomics data and cutting edge NGS diagnostics.

WHO YOU ARE / REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python or R, with experience building bioinformatic workflows and documenting code with version control.
  • Proficiency in genomics data analysis, preferably including two or more of the following:
  • Epigenetic data (methylation, 5hmc, etc)
  • Chromatin accessibility data (ATAC-seq, fragmentomics, etc.)
  • Transcriptomics data (single cell or bulk RNA-seq)
  • Whole genome (WGS), whole exome (WES), or other DNA sequence data
  • Liquid biopsy or ctDNA data
  • Experience applying AI/ML to problems in computational biology, such as building or using AI/ML workflows, frameworks, or libraries in combination with genomics datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to present complex data to varied audiences.
  • Highly independent and a quick learner, eager to learn new areas and build expertise.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Practical experience or familiarity with self-supervised learning, representation learning, foundation models, or related machine learning approaches.
  • Background in cancer biology, cancer genomics, or clinical data analysis in oncology
  • Preferably a strong publication record or impactful first author paper.
  • Familiarity working with publicly available genomics data and working in high-performance computing (HPC) and/or UNIX environments is a plus.
  • Highly motivated, able to creatively take initiative to see your ideas implemented and your vision executed, while maintaining a collaborative mindset.
    The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $110,000 to $120,000.. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
