Description
JOB SUMMARY The Post-Doctoral Fellow, as part of the program team, engages in collaborative scientific work with other colleagues to deliver specific research tasks. The Postdoctoral Fellow may also prepare status reports on program process. The Pluripotent Stem Cell Disease Modeling Lab at Sidra Medicine is seeking a highly motivated computational biologist to join our research team as a postdoctoral fellow. Our laboratory uses induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) for disease modeling of diabetes and rare genetic disorders, with a focus on understanding pancreatic development, β-cell dysfunction, and regenerative medicine approaches. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead cutting-edge bioinformatics analyses focused on single-cell RNA sequencing and multi-omics approaches in stem cell-derived disease models. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of disease mechanisms through integrated computational and experimental approaches using patient-derived iPSCs and genetically engineered stem cell lines. Research Focus Our laboratory combines pluripotent stem cell biology, genome editing, and single-cell genomics to: Model diabetes and rare genetic disorders using patient-derived iPSCs Dissect molecular mechanisms of pancreatic development and β-cell differentiation Identify disease-specific cellular phenotypes and regulatory networks Develop therapeutic strategies for diabetes and related metabolic disorders KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES Shares responsibility for the timely completion of assigned tasks and ensures constant progress in research pertaining to specialty area. Performs assigned scientific research at the highest standards. Writes and publishes articles in peer reviewed journals that highlight findings from research. Provides regular status updates regarding developments in the project. Develops collaborative links with core scientific personnel in related program areas to gain exposure and build knowledge on experimental/ research activities and approaches. Provides education and updates for medical technologists and clinicians regarding advances in the field. Researches articles with regard to the subject, keeps up-to-date with the latest developments and identifies areas for improvement. Participates in postdoc career development and review process. Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies Lead single-cell RNA sequencing analysis of iPSC/hPSC-derived pancreatic lineages Perform multi-omics data integration (transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics) to identify disease-associated regulatory networks and cell-state transitions in diabetes and rare genetic disorders Develop and implement computational pipelines for bulk and single-cell RNA-seq data analysis from stem cell differentiation experiments Collaborate with wet lab researchers to design differentiation experiments and interpret genomic data in the context of stem cell disease modeling Perform complementary wet lab experiments including iPSC/hPSC culture, directed differentiation protocols, and sample preparation for sequencing Generate publication-quality figures and contribute to manuscript preparation Present research findings at lab meetings, seminars, and scientific conference QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA Education Essential: PhD in relevant field. Preferred : Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biomedical Science, or related field. Demonstrated expertise in single-cell RNA sequencing analysis using standard tools. Experience Essential: Demonstrated independent research capabilities, good organizational skills and the ability to work with others. Research experiences within an academic health center or university with high research activity, good record of scientific publication and outstanding reference. Preferred: Experience with omics data analysis (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, or proteomics) Strong publication record demonstrating computational research productivity Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team Basic wet lab experience in molecular biology or cell culture. Job Specific Skills and Abilities Knowledge of scientific research methods and evaluation of research results. Ability to develop and maintain own knowledge and skills at the forefront of field. Academic proof of intellectual strength that earns credibility and respect among faculty, staff and administrators in a world-class academic setting. Ability to both collaborate closely with others, and to work independently on challenging problems. Ability to explain research topics, both to a scientific audience and other staff. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to relate well to multiple audiences. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
