Description
Postdoctoral positions are available to investigate the disease mechanism of gestational diabetes, a medical condition in which women without previously diagnosed diabetes manifest high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes is one of the most common obstetrical complications. We focus on the delineation of the signaling pathway from gestational hormones to pancreatic beta-cell mass and function. We have generated several rodent models with genetic predisposition to developing gestational diabetes. Our goal is to characterize protein factors that integrate gestational hormones to beta-cell compensation for pregnancy. These studies are to uncover molecular targets for the prevention or therapeutic intervention of gestational diabetes. The duty of this postdoc candidate is to conduct basic research in a non-clinical laboratory. The candidate will be required for participating lab meetings and attending scientific seminars that take place weekly in the Rangos Reserach Center, UMPC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Candidates with beta-cell biology are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. Three references preferred.
Responsibilities
The primary duty involves conducting basic research in a non-clinical laboratory focused on delineating the signaling pathway from gestational hormones to pancreatic beta-cell mass and function in rodent models of gestational diabetes. The candidate will also be required to participate in weekly lab meetings and attend scientific seminars.
