Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in CÚRAM Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices and the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI), in the School of Medicine at the University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is funded by Research Ireland (RI) and is available from 12/05/2025 to contract end date of 31/12/26. Information on project/centre. Prof O’Brien leads a Research Ireland funded research group as part of CÚRAM-P2 research program which is investigating the use of umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stromal cells grown under macromolecular crowding conditions as a novel therapy for diabetic and non-diabetic wound healing.
CÚRAM is a leading global medical device research centre at the University of Galway located at the Biomedical Science Building at the University of Galway. Prof O’Brien laboratory is located at REMEDI, a biomedical research centre also located at the Biomedical Science Building at the University of Galway.
REMEDI’s and Prof O’Brien’s research primary goal is to studying stem/stromal/progenitor cell biology and translating these findings to new regenerative therapies for human disease. One of the unique strength of REMEDI and CÚRAM is the ability to create unique synergistic networks across academic scientists, clinicians, engineers and industry.

Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €45,846 - €58,481 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
